Atelier is the first phase of a mixed-use development that will total 1.5 million square feet of commercial and residential space. Located on West 42nd Street in the Hell's Kitchen neighborhood of Manhattan, the 46-story Atelier has a cool plan that its architect, Costas Kondylis, says, "recalls the bow of a great ship interpreted all in glass with wrap-around balconies and expansive views," adding that his design was inspired by the oceanliners that, used to dock nearby along the Hudson River in the 40s. The result is very striking, bold and high tech.

131 8th Avenue-Chelsea, New York, NY

Owner: Centaur Properties
Architect: SLCE Architects
Construction Mgr: McGowan Builders, Inc.
Wall System/Material: Aluminum Composite Metal & EIFS

Several low-lying buildings in the trendy Chelsea section of Manhattan were demolished to make way for construction of a new
8-story, 50-unit mixed-use apartment building. The project, located on 8th Avenue between 16th & 17th Streets posed all of the typical urban site challenges, including a subway entrance, below grade vaults and a bike lane. FT installed pre-fabricated exterior wall panels efficiently under demanding conditions.

Located at one of the most prestigious addresses in New York, the fully-occupied 27-story building at the corner of 57th & Madison Avenue is at the center of the busiest (and most expensive) commercial district in the US. The owners' decision to upgrade the exterior of their building required eye-catching results in order to be competitive with the neighbors in aesthetics, utility and price. The existing 50-plus-year-old building in a very congested urban setting presented a wide variety of challenges.

Renovation of the building's exterior envelope included new windows and re-cladding of the existing brick with high-tech aluminum composite panels. The result is a handsome, tailored, sleek structure that rises 27 stories above the heart of the Plaza District in Midtown Manhattan.

  839 6th Avenue-Eventi

Architect: Perkins Eastman
Construction Mgr: J.D. Carlisle Development Corp.
Wall System/Material: Aluminum Composite Metal

Overlooking Herald Square & Greeley Square in the lower midtown section of Manhattan is a 54-story, mixed-use tower with 469,000 gross square feet of floor area above grade and four levels of parking below. The first 21 floors are comprised of retail shops and a hotel. The top 30 floors include a high-end residential development known as Beatrice.

The north and south elevations feature a vertical fin that rises the full height and across the top of the house. The project also boasts a public plaza/kiosk area with a huge outdoor multimedia art screen.

The architect's use of custom metal panels at the fins and plaza area creates a distinguished architectural identity that defines the height and scope of this project. FT furnished and installed the custom metal panels.

  48 Bond Street-NOHO
48 Bond Street-NOHO, New York, NY

Architect: Deborah Berke
Construction Mgr: DCR Construction
Wall System/Material: 2 1/4" Granite

New construction of an 11-story residential condo project in the NoHo section of Manhattan is best described by the architect: "The facade of 48 Bond is an elegant composition of slabs of granite and sheets of glass. The scale of the material is unusually large, contributing to its abstract and bold quality. The stone and glass play off each other and accentuate their contrasting textures." (Deborah Berke)

  Townsend
350 West 37th Street-Townsend, New York, NY

Owner: Tower 37, LLC
Architect: Avinash Malhotra
Construction Mgr: Leviathon
Wall System/Material: Aluminum Composite Metal

Townsend is a 29-story luxury apartment building located in the Garment District of Manhattan. The building features a landscaped sun deck and entertaining area to enjoy the city from above. The bulkhead enclosure at the top of the building required panels that would complement the building's modern limestone and glass tower below, and would enhance the sun deck and entertaining area.

  American Loft Building
American Loft Building, Philadelphia, PA

Architect: Archi-Tectonics
Wall System/Material: Aluminum Composite Metal & EIFS

The asymmetrical lines of the American Loft Building command attention on the Philadelphia skyline. This 11-story tower in the Northern Liberties section of the city is an exercise in bold geometry. The building's exterior is a series of interlocking L-shaped sections of black and gray that contrast in a striking way. The zoning envelope mandated that the structure stand on concrete columns over an open parking area, which created significant design challenges. The architect's vision to create a smooth transition from the building structure to the open area below was realized with large radiused panels.

Project 3 Meadowlands Exposition Center
Meadowlands Exposition Center, Secaucus, NJ

Owner: Hartz Mountain Industries
Architect: Vincent Antonacci, Jr.
Wall System/Material: Aluminum Composite Metal Installation

The owners of the Meadowlands Exposition Center planned a complete facelift for the exterior of their existing facility. The Exposition Center, located just five miles from Manhattan, is a popular location for trade shows, seminars, concert/theater and sporting events. The Exposition Center's location and facilities ensure a very high occupancy that would normally create challenges for the planned renovations. FT provided everything from demolition to the installation of a new high-tech exterior wall system and an elaborate entrance archway that provides "a sense of arrival" at the Exposition Center. FT's ability to manage the field work, fabrication and installation was critical to the success of the project.
